re: #139 Walter L. Newton

I tell this quick story, it’s something you would enjoy. Wed. my girlfriend and I took about 8 hours for ourselves, away from her family and the funeral stuff, and rode into NYC from the Hamptons.

We didn’t have a lot of expendable extra cash, this funeral was not expected to start with, and last minute plane fares and stuff was a bit pricier than if we had planned far ahead. So we went to the half price ticket booth, decided on “Phantom,” 2 o’clock matinee. I’ve seen the road show at least 5 times, she saw it in NYC a few years ago.

Show over, curtain call, the actor playing the Phantom announces that this is the 9000th performance, the show is 21 years old, currently the longest running show on Broadway and then brings out a large birthday cake, then the original director Hal Prince, then the original choreographer Gillian Lynne and then the composer himself Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

A last minute decision to see the show, half priced tickets and we witness theatre history, along with 3 of the most famos theater people in the world.

Not a bad afternoon.

Sweet!
