You make a good point, but the purpose of the party out of power is to undertake the steps needed to return or gain power. That means that the focus has to be on articulating an alternative vision and approach that will go farther and better to address the nation’s challenges than presented by the party in power.

To worry about being targets or to provide ammunition to the large scale elements of the MSM to take shots at you is all part of leadership. Guess what, even without providing ammunition, they are going to attempt to marginalize you and take shots at you. Fearing action because of a robust counter does nothing but show the lack of leadership potential you have and that ultimately you are frozen by fear and lack the conviction of your positions.

If one is going to be damned if they do and damned if they don’t, it’s far better to do.
