I haven’t read all this thread, but I am confused by what seems to be the thrust of Churchill’s case - that his First Amendment rights were violated.

He has a constitutional right to say pretty much what he wants to say. However he does not have a constitutional right to work for the University of Colorado.

Correct. He’s saying he was fired because of his politics, and that violates his free speech rights.

However, he was fired for academic misconduct (and it seems that there’s not a form of academic misconduct he missed); that it took his politics to bring attention to the complaints of fabrication, plagiarism, misrepresenation and so on is neither here nor there.
