I wish the president made zero indication that he would even consider a short-term deal. The cracks were showing yesterday in the GOP. He and Reid should have added even more pressure today.

Right now the ball is in the President’s court. Where it should not be.

I read the exact opposite. By putting forth this idea today, the GOP leadership at least has indicated that they’re not truly serious about breaching the debt ceiling. That’s a pretty significant tell after days of Boehner thundering that we’re on “the path to default.” So now we wait and see if they actually write down this proposal and put it on the floor.
