As i recall, they were banned from touring the USA for a long time that cost them a lot of public acclaim.

My guitar jamming buddy is a huge (yooooge!) Kinks fan. To this day we cannot get over they were ever banned from playing this country. Hell, they really were the first bad-boy punk band. But it was their behavior on their tours that got them in trouble with the American music powers and they were shit-listed. Sad.
