I do actually believe it. Murkowski is one of the few Rs remaining who has any conception of the value of long-term strategy versus immediate short-term gain. The question isn’t whether she’d vote against it. The question is whether she could pull Romney and Collins (or any of the retiring Rs like Lamar!) along for a vote that would improve the way history views them at the expense of immediately cramming a new conservative justice on to the court.

She knows she’s already on the bubble for 2022, and she knows blindly following McConnell and Trump off a cliff isn’t going to win her another term.
