Don’t Let Congress Meddle in Key Nutrition Program for Women and Kids

WIC is a national nutrition program designed to support the nutrition and health of low-income mothers and young children. In the 40 years since the WIC program began, Congress has never interfered with selecting which foods the program should provide. Instead, Congress has delegated the determination of WIC foods to experts in nutrition science and medicine.

But without your help, that could change. Potato industry lobbyists are urging Congress to circumvent the scientific review process and add language to the Farm Bill or Agriculture spending bill that would weaken the WIC food packages by requiring the inclusion of white potatoes.
