If anything, it has gotten worse.
On the other hand, most Europeans cannot afford the luxury of having a house with a pool in the backyard, and most of Europe is too crowded to have accessible recreation areas for a weekend getaway: they need time to travel.
But yes, Europe understands the concept of family time a lot better than the US, and don’t even get me started on parental leave.
For my part, I’d rather have the time off than a pool in the backyard, but Americans seem more than willing to work their asses off for assets than end up costing them a lot of money over decades. Slaves to the job, the house, the cars, the pool.
