By the way…day two with my new HP “envy” netbook…not a bad little unit. The screen’s a bit small, but ctrl-fn-f11 (f keys are dual purpose for playing media) gets rid of the browser address and menu bars and I can see a decent sized screen. Command prompt available via running cmd at the start menu, though there is no icon for that. 128 gigs free out of the box (why there are 20-30 gigs of used space is beyond me). 1 gig of memory seems to be sufficient. Keyboard is a little small, but F and J have little raised bars, so typing by feel is easy enough if I don’t overreach.

It found my wifi printer on the network, downloaded and installed the drivers, so that’s all set up. Two USB ports and a built-in ethernet jack means I’ll be able to connect it to my laptop to use the dvd drive for installing software I don’t want to have to download.

iPad? It might be more absorbant, but I think this little thing will be fine for what I need…and I’ll use it primarily for traveling, so I won’t have to carry a full sized laptop with me.

Windows 7 is a concern, but I figure I’ll whack the fucker in a few months and install RedHat or SUSE on it and turn it into a real machine…unless I get used to win7 and decide to keep it.
