She was way off-base on the Statue of Liberty, too.

“It is of course the symbol for Americans to be reminded of other countries, because this was gifted us of course by the French, other countries, warning us to never make the mistakes that some of them had made, this is a symbol, a reminder of what what it is that we can do right in the name of freedom. And that’s what I appreciate about the Statue of Liberty.”

Later, she went on to talk about why the Dream Act is a such a bad policy idea, that we don’t want to be giving citizenship to people who don’t stand in line.

(here’s the part she apparently missed:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses
yearning to breathe free
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed
to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

Or, y’know, maybe I have it wrong, maybe there’s some alternative tea-party way to interpret that bit.

Also, too. I don’t want to be the one to tell her that poem was written by a Jewish communist.)
