I grew up with nothing but purebred show dogs around me so my wife and I will only take rescue pups.

If you have your heart set on a purebred, call breeders to see who they’re retiring. I got my Lambchop, a basset hound (sweetest dog in the world!!), when she got Pyometra (sic) and had to be spayed. She couldn’t be shown any longer and I wound up with the nicest pooch around.
