The theory is that the smoke melts and wicks the wax out of your ear.

As for q tips, they often end up compacting a glob of earwax up against your eardrum over the years. That is something I have tried to deal with - i have wax buildup and the wax removal washes don’t seem to break it down.

But the ear candles are pure, unadulterated bullshit. Google it.
