Are THEY voting on independence, too?

I’ve occasionally thought we should. The rest of the country would be glad to see us go. Like New York in the States everybody outside Toronto hates the city. If you ask them why they can’t answer.

My wife and I had dinner with some friends last night. One had done a bit of travelling visiting friends elsewhere in the country over the summer. The first thing she noted was how the places she visited just kind of appeared under her plane. These are supposed to be major cities as well. “Country, country, country, Edmonton,” was how she described it. Flying into Toronto you fly over the city for a few minutes before landing, and the airport is outside the city.

She also noted that Toronto is much, much more diverse than Canada’s other cities, even Montreal. She was a teacher until recently and she noted that there are almost eighty recognizable ethnic groups/nationalities serviced by The Toronto School board.

I suspect our size and diversity might contribute to our being disliked so much. My current weak hypothesis anyway.

As far as Scottish independence goes there was an interesting editorial in one of our major papers this morning on the subject. It sums up my thoughts fairly well.
