Probably not a good idea. No deductions for mortgage interest, healthcare costs, business expenses etc. but worst of all it shifts the tax burden down the economic ladder. It would decrease taxes on people with private jets and villas in Maui to people renting a crappy apartment and working for a low hourly wage. Our current tax system could use some tweaking but it’s not really that bad and it’s not really the problem.
