16gb is my new minimum for a computer. The CPU is almost irrelevant for how most people use computers, but RAM can make a big difference.

Oh, I’m not so sure of that. I had a 1.6 ghz decelleron with 16 gb in my laptop. I have a AMD Ryzen 5 2400g at 3.9 ghz and 8 gb that runs rings around it even with the big chunk of memory sliced off by the GPU. Now when I can swing the 2x8gb dimms to make it 16 gb it will be somewhat faster but the real difference will be how many things I can do simultaneously before it slows down.

OTOH, I can remember doing timeshare with Unix V7 on a PDP-11 and 4 mb memory ;)
