re: #137 Decatur Deb
Oh yeah—Safety doctrine and personal experience: A frozen auto battery is VERY happy to explode, even after you think it has thawed. By dumb luck I had stepped behind the open hood when one went off. The blast is about as powerful as a 12 gauge, scattered acid and case fragments over the yard and roof.
It takes a good bit to freeze a half-charged battery, but a lot of Lizards are in the zone now.
Sometimes freezing a battery will also kill it. A warm battery is a happy battery. I used to take ‘em out in some of my old cars back in the 70s during cold snaps. Take it in the house, put it on a wood plank somewhere warm. It takes a few minutes to hook it back up, but it is faster than running a cold battery down and having to deal with it.
