The latest news from Sweden is more controversy over the newspaper (well, tabloid really) Aftonbladet, previously criticized over publishing at best unverified idiocy, at worst an anti-semitic screed (Here’s a summary of that episode), publishing an article by Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie kesson.

The original article can be found here (in Swedish). There’s an article on The Local about it. I couldn’t find a translation of the whole thing, so I made my own translation (apologies for any mistakes, I’m not a professional).

In a follow-up article (in Swedish), his statements are examined and skewered, to which he responded “it was a bit sloppy” (referring to his own article). He responds further to criticism by repeating “There is almost no information available, but in the name of reason one can assume it’s correct”, cementing the level of intellectual honesty he represents.
He writes that no one would have guessed that Islam would be Sweden’s second largest religion 20 years ago, even though it was at the time. When this is pointed out, he replies “It’s entirely possible you’re right about that, I haven’t even bothered to check it”.

“How can you say that fundamentalism is increasing, or that Malm will have a muslim majority when even the experts can’t?”
“Of course you can’t say we’re going to have an increase, it’s obvious that it’s hard to make population estimates, but if the development continues I’m fully convinced that it may happen. There could also be a majority of polar bears too, purely hypothetically”.

SD is currently polling at around 4.7 percent of the vote (4 percent is the limit on entering parliament). There is a current debate suggesting that our 7 seated parties are willing to work across bloc politics rather than put SD in a position as the tie-breaker.

On a personal note, translating the run-on sentence at line 13 made me want to hurt something.
