Actually…you can wage very succesful insurgencies against folks with nukes. Who the hell wants to blow up their own cities and infrastructure?

Also, we already found out over the past 13 years that idiots with AK-47s can still make life pretty damned hellish for everyone else in Iraq and Afghanstan.

The big deal with insurgencies is they need cover.

It used to be, and probably still is, mandatory for counter-insurgency folk to read some books from several wars back because they’re still valid. Because of our circumstances I’d really recommend two in particular: Mao’s “On Guerrilla Warfare” and Thompson’s “Defeating Communist Insurgency”. If you’re only going to read one read the second - Thompson WON, and he notes some geopolitical requirements for doing it his way that specifically apply here in the US.
