There is a difference between stating that the info will remain “confidential” vs stating that the info is “anonymous” — in other words, the former means that “they know who you are, but, it’ll only be released to designated personnel” — if it’s truly “anonymous” then they can’t trace the identity of the respondent.

I believe they do anonymize it. That’s what I heard a while back. In any case they are definitely not permitted to release data to any other agency - including the FBI, see above - that would identify an individual or business.

How that jibes with DHS or NSA requirements, I have no clue.
