My 1st thought was that that was “good”, then…

“I think you can never erase history,” Gianforte said. “I can’t erase it, but I did do everything in my power once the event was over to take responsibility.”

Damn it. He’s revising history as he says he can’t erase it. He did not take responsibility when the “event” (attack) was over. His first response was to lie about what happened.
