holy hell - were they actually planning a VTOL version of the (already massively over budget) F35?

There is a reason the Harrier has been an evolutionary dead end - and no amount of money will change that.

The I think it’s going to be an STOL version now, but its still wanted for the Marine landing ships. It’s to replace the Harrier.
