Confirmation bias runs strongly in the engineering communities because it’s how we get stuff done; we hold fast to our ways that WORK, without any of that fancy theoretical mumbo-jumbo. It works against us when it comes to things outside our specialist purview. I do wish, sometimes, that critical thinking were more of a discipline among my kind.

My degrees are all in electrical engineering, but I think more like a scientist than an engineer. It would be good to see more emphasis on critical thinking in the engineering departments in academia. If nothing else, it would probably be helpful for engineers confronted with a need to come up with new and better designs.
