Discuss: Barack Obama is a Liberal Republican

I think BHO hangs ideologically well with the Gerald Ford/Nelson Rockefeller band of “liberal” Republicans.

There’s been some bitching from liberals about that sort of thing lately. I see a couple problems. First is that our political definitions have changed. “Conservative” has come to mean hating gays, global warming denial, opposing any sort of environmental protections, etc. “Liberal” has come to mean peace at all costs, shutting down opposition radio shows, pointless protests and marches, etc. Neither of which has much to do with the defined political philosophies but it’s more like the peripheral baggage each side carries with them.
Second is the partisans suddenly become shocked when confronted realistic and pragmatic leaders. Instead of making an effort to understand how/why the world functions like it does, they recoil in shock that their pet fantasies haven’t become reality.
