It feels as if every minute there’s a brutal irony:

JFK talking about how if you seek to gain power “by riding the back of the tiger, you will wind up inside” that tiger. This was meant as a warning to the enemy.

Then the American officer, clearly an honorable and brave and dedicated soldier, after his friend was one of three American “advisers” killed in the first major pitched battle between ARVN forces and VC, in which the ARVNs had eighty killed: He arrived at the battle site and, as he proudly reports to this day, refused to let the South Vietnamese soldiers touch the corpses of the three Americans. I appreciate military traditions, but is he still totally unaware of the insult this constituted toward our supposed allies?

Exactly, that was so racist.
