Seen this?

[Link: news.bbc.co.uk…]

Professor James Lovelock, the scientist who developed Gaia theory, has said it is too late to try and save the planet.

The man who achieved global fame for his theory that the whole earth is a single organism now believes that we can only hope that the earth will take care of itself in the face of completely unpredictable climate change.

NO I hadn’t seen this. I think he is too pessimistic and that there is still time to avert the worst effects.

However, that time is running out right now as we speak.

If we do cross the major tipping points, the effects are utterly catastrophic for us and the language f the article is all wrong.

Yes, in the long run, the Earth will shift to a new equilibrium.

Most humans will not survive the transition. There really won’t be a way to adapt quickly enough.

I don’t believe we will go extinct as a species. However civilization as we know it will collapse completely and there will be billions of deaths. I am not at all prepared to speculate on how far back the survivors will be knocked in terms of civilization.
