I haven’t adressed it because there’s no way to tell what’s happening from the still pics. These protests can be violent and confrontational. Police have been attacked, stabbed, injured, etc. depending on the nature of the protest it may not have been a good place for an elderly lady. If we can find some decent video I’d like to see it.

2. The elderly lady seems to have felt it was a perfectly good place for her, and at eighty-four, I can only assume she’s got some sense of such things.

3. I’d also like to see what happened in the lead-up. THe cops say

“Pepper spray was deployed only against subjects who were either refusing a lawful order to disperse or engaging in assaultive behavior toward officers,” Kappel wrote on the department’s blog.

but the still photo seems to show something of a gridlock of folks, and I’m wondering exactly how possible it was for people to disperse, or move, under those conditions. Mrs. Rainey says she was ‘almost trampled’, which suggests a dense crowd. I’d be very curious to see the video of the event.

Everyone should now feel free to attack me, either for suggesting that the police might have fucked up, or for supporting police brutality, or both.
