Yeah, but corporate raiders also do really do things like load the company up with debt and use that to buy back stock, or issue dividends. Corporate raiders really do engage in looting and destruction. Sometimes it is ‘creative destruction’, and other times it’s just loading your pockets with money while screwing over everyone who works for that company.

Don’t forget the part that they use the company’s pension funds as collateral for the debt they’re piling on (use the borrowed funds to pay themselves consulting fees, or install themselves as corporate officers for salaries 5-10 times higher than the people they replaced) — and when the company goes belly-up, the Pension Guarantee Board (i.e., taxpayers) are on the hook for the laid-off people’s retirement benefits.
