re: #42 klys (maker of Silmarils)

So it turns out that if your options are a) hike with a full pack for 4 miles while wearing flip flops or b) put your hiking boots back on over some really impressive blisters, option a is totally reasonable.

(Miles hiked in boots: 4. Miles hiked in flip flops: 13. Only had to haul the full pack for the trip out though, thanks to some fortunate circumstances.)

We did hike into Kings Canyon National Park, which is where this perhaps overly-sharpened phone camera photo is from. Maybe I will find the energy to dig out the good photos tomorrow, but there’s not a ton.

So anyway, you’re all still stuck with me. (Most common wildlife observed on the trail, besides the most obnoxious mosquitoes ever? Lizards.)

Had a friend who served in the peace corps in Nepal.

He said the footwear of choice walking up and down hills & valleys (apparently there are a more than a few of them in Nepal) was flip flops.

More specifically flip flops that were trimmed at the heel so it didn’t protrude out from underneath your heel.

That was to prevent the flip flop from flipping mud up the back of your calf.
