I want to thank the religious right for hobbling the Republican party - because I think the less govt and less taxes ideology - while built on unicorn fairytales - has an appeal to Americans - govt should not bother us with how we have sex and with whom nor should they bother us with taxes - coherent.

What you have now is a party that says less govt intervention unless it involves the govt trying to disrupt gay rights or abortion rights or sexuality or other such social conservative causes where they want to impose on people behaviors.

It used to be that the glue that held these two ideologies together is a love of militarism and anti-communism during the Nixon/Reagan era and after 9/11 in the Bush era but that is no longer such a powerful bond.

It’s a schizophrenic message and he GOP’s confusion of message shows this.
