I happen to agree that the kittens should have taken a back seat to getting the subways going - it’s an economics decision - tens of thousands of commuters stranded b/c of the subway shutdown to corral the two kittens.

No one would think twice if squirrels were along the right of way and got in/near the third rail.

If you happened to be one of those folks who was stuck for hours because the trains got shuttered for a couple of kittens, you’d speak a different tune.

But most folks voting in NYC will back the guy who apparently wants the Cuban embargo lifted.
