Put yourself in the position of a Hamas or Irgun commander.

You’re suffering a multigenerational occupation, and the correlation of forces in exceedingly asymmetrical. So imbalanced that direct confrontation with military units will result in a 100% casualty/capture number to your detriment, with no possibility of inflicting damage on your target. Do you do the courageous thing with a frontal assault, knowing that you’re going to be slaughtered, or do you choose a soft target like a movie theater, pizza joint, or the King David Hotel, in order to sap the will of the public/occupiers to persist?

The intelligent thing to do is stop firing rockets, put down your arms, and sign a peace treaty with Israel and really mean it.
