Yeah, we can write off the huge seismic event and subsequent jump in radioactivity as nothing to worry about. Surely nobody’s got sensors or satellites capable of detecting a subsurface thermonuclear detonation and would accepted the excuse that it was just another underwater earthquake.

I remember reading Democratic Underground during the 2004 tsunami. A small but vehement contingent there insisted that Bush had detonated a “mini-nuke” under water, thus causing the tsunami, which he did because mumble mumble hey look a squirrel!

I can’t find the link, but someone with relevant knowledge calculated and demonstrated mathematically that the amount of energy released in that earthquake was greater than the amount of energy that would be released if the entire world’s stockpile of nuclear weapons had been detonated. That particular conspiracy theory fizzled out after that.
