That’s not a defense of the Nazis, nor of the Al Qaeda jihadis in Benghazi. It’s a criticism using the word ‘senseless’ in reference to their violent misdeeds.

I agree that ‘senseless’ is not appropriate in those cases. The totalitarians in question carried out their actions in service to their ideology. The killing of civilians by the SS (and by Al Qaeda) was (and is) was planned and intended to achieve certain goals. Utterly evil goals, but goals nevertheless.
