A generation of Democrats that are willing and able to be true to themselves and have the courage of their convictions is going to confuse a lot of people.

I think it helps having a generation that didn’t experience the backlash against the Civil Rights Act.

The best argument I saw recently, and it’s a shame I can’t find the tweet, is that one major reason AOC and her generation of Democrats are so effective is that they’ve never experienced the Republican Party as anything other than cartoonish villains acting in exceedingly bad faith. Therefore they aren’t hampered by any illusion that they’re arguing over honest differences of opinion with people who also have our country’s best interests at heart.
