Male hair loss is allegedly mostly influenced by DNA. And given we males only have one X chromosome, a chromosome on which some genes may reside that affect things like hair, that’s why we can blame our mother’s for these things (even though it became fashionable a few years back to write pop-articles trying to downplay this. True, most phenotypic traits you can name are due to many genes, not just a single one. Yet there is a very important gene on the X which is a big player in male-pattern baldness.) See: nbcnews.com
I still have most my hair, thin and gray though it has become. Kind of an ugly shade of gray too, not that silver-mane stuff that some guys get. Anecdotally, men who have the darkest hair when young seem to end up with the best looking hair when old. I started out blonde, turned brown-ish, now am a dull gray.
