I’m a conservative.
I’m in favor of conservation efforts.
And while I like my pocket to be lined, it is not at the expense of poor people.

Interesting that studies show that, for whatever reason, conservatives charitable donations outpace that of liberals.

There are, however, plenty of self-designated “conservatives” who make a point of getting rich ripping off the disadvantaged. Viz. payday loan usurers, “rent-to-own” operators, real-estate sharks, ad infinitum. Their excuse is always “I’m providing a service.” Well, so is the local crack dealer.

And unlike the crack dealer, they have plenty of “conservative” politicians and lobbyists in their pockets to make sure their practices go on without let or hindrance.
