Nothing wrong with a bit of prep. I always carried a bail-out bag on TDY, enough to let me walk out of whatever country Uncle sent me to. Don’t forget maps and little dictionaries. (Langenscheidts packed best.)

Rand-Mc-Nally plus USGS topos. Dictionaries will not be needed. Yeah, I will have to spend some time on major roads for times sake. On the other hand, I can bypass others.
