This is one of those times where you learn who actually read Bush v. Gore and who just skimmed the Cliff Notes. The USSC only weighed in there because the Bush campaign was able to argue convincingly that any recount where there were differing rules in different counties would violate the Bush campaign’s rights under the Equal Protection Clause. And that a general recount under uniform rules ran the risk of putting FL in violation of the Dec 8th deadline to approve a slate of electors in time for the EC vote.

In this election, neither scenario is currently in play, and (if you want to strain the analogy) the Trump campaign is actually in danger of ending up as the “Gore” in BvG.
