The Mrs. Fish and I talked a little bit about this the other day. See, American Christians have this persecution complex because America refuses to let them make all the rules. What “we” don’t get, though, is that Jesus didn’t want us to make all the rules. So what we wind up with is a bunch of Christians sounding like the petulant children they are, while in other places in the world, Christians are under REAL persecution and we do nothing to help because we’re too self-centered to see it. And we think that this is okay! Ugh. I need to get off my soapbox now, but man, does this get me hot under the collar.

As far as I can see, the vast majority of people use religion to reinforce what they already believe, for good or ill.
