It has partially become racist theater. But it isn’t just that. Michelle Obama has done nothing but be courteous and exemplary as a First Lady. Yet attacking her is just a very mean way to attack the president. They don’t just want to discredit Obama. They want to hurt his feelings. They want to hurt the man on a personal level. There are few things more insulting that you can do than pick on a man’s wife. It is just like middle schoolers looking for the meanest thing they can possibly say and competing with each other to say it.

It it that base and that childish. America has become infested with surly gossipy, bullying teens who are trapped in flabby adult bodies.

Yup, it’s over the top- and for no reason other than to be adversarial.

I don’t believe that for most people, racism is the driving force, but that doesn’t change the reality. For those for whom racism does matter, the escalated and shrill hysteria will only feed their dysfunction.

The phenomena is not new- it was evident when Gore chose Lieberman as his running mate and to some extent the same applies to Eric Cantor. The Paulians, Rockwellians, etc., and their elements within the TP can hardly contain their disdain for Cantor- anti semitism wrapped in a political cloak.

Are the vast majority of the TP members racists and anti semites? No- I don’t believe that for a moment. Nevertheless, that movement has provided them a home and cover.

Sometimes, the tent can be a little too big.
