US homicide statistics are in a class by themselves among first world nations for a reason, the ease with which one can acquire firearms here. In most other equivalent modern democracies you need actual references and an interview with the police, to figure out if you’re a crazy asshole or not. Instead here we’re all about blind obedience to a clearly outdated text.

The problem it seems to me is whenever a tragedy involving guns happens, there is someone from the right to insist that “it wasn’t guns that did this.” They like to claim that “Oh you can do as much damage with a knife as a gun” or the tired “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Or the really pathetic ones will blame cultural liberalism even though other countries in the West that are far more culturally liberal than we are don’t have these. It’s a disgrace. I definitely feel you about not wanting to hear about dismissing the issue tonight.
