re: #172 Escaped Hillbilly

I would say, buying them such a device at that age is a little ridiculous anyway.

Disagree. Today’s kids are far too savvy for the “See ‘N Say” type toys that you or I had in our youth. The need greater intellectual challenges.

But expecting parents to peer over their children’s shoulder as the open the package is silly.

Certainly. The parents should educate themselves on the internet ready devices they intend to give their kids, and give those devices a good “once over” before giving them to their kids.

Much the same would have been done back in the day with “Assembly Required” bicycles and the like. No responsible parent would have sent their kid down the road on one of those without giving that a good “once over”.

You got a kid?

Irrelevant to the topic.

Do you hover over them as they flip through the channels or turn on their computer…constantly? Come on. No sane person is that diligent.

Agreed.

He was right in the next room and came in immediately. Sounds pretty responsible to me.

His story, and it seems hinky to me.

It’s not really that big an issue. Kids get peaks of adult stuff all the time. It was nipped in the bud. I’m sure he returned it right away. No big deal. But I don’t think you should make it sound as if he’s a negligent parent because they got a peak at a booby.

Not at all. Perhaps I worded it poorly, but it seemed to me that he was trying to blame his lack of due diligence on the manufacturer.

I remember sneaking in to cut up my dad’s Playboys for paper dolls.

No comment. :P

Kids get into things. Parents do what they can within reason and without smothering. I don’t even see why this made the news.

Word.
