The existence of these undercard events is starting to get a bit of a joke. The first two times last fall might have made sense, but now it seems quite unneeded.

After Feb 1 they really ought to just drop these people.

But I suppose if the companies can sell advertising, they will.

The “undercard” debates exist not only to sell more advertising, but also to avoid the headache of choosing between having all 13 on one stage or dealing with complaints that the candidates excluded weren’t getting “equal air time.” The networks likely don’t want to have to argue that the debates are anything but long infomercials for the various candidates.
