My brother posted this on his FB page yesterday:

Translating a speech that a German politician will give next week in Washington. He tosses off words like Sozialpartnerschaft [Social Partnership], kooperative Arbeitsbeziehungen [cooperative working relationships], Kndigungsschutz [Protection against dismissal] — I can translate them, but will an American audience understand the concepts? These ideas are dinosaurs in the US: so thoroughly extinct that hardliners can deny they ever existed.

In brackets are Google’s translations [my brother would kill me…]. We have a couple of German speakers here, and a bunch of people familiar with American political culture—what do you think?
