The Hyperion books by Dan Simmons are excellent sci-fi, my personal favorites of all time so far. If your deeply Christian you may have a bit of a problem with the last two because the main supporting character is a sort of, kind of, female replacement for Jesus, not religiously but functionally. It is a very different and deeply and intricately wrought plot about man vs. the artificial intelligences he has created.
