The story says we’re negotiating with the Taliban, not al-quaeda. Your lazy conflation is exactly the kind of disingenuous presentation that got us locked into a decade long unwinnable quagmire to begin with. You don’t have to like either of them to understand that they’re not synonymous, that they have their own self interests that overlap less and less as time goes on. They’re only allied inasmuch as our policies make allying advantageous, or necessary.
