Can I force you to give blood? Should I be able to do so?

Can I force you to donate a kidney? Should I be able to do so?

Can I force you to act as an active transfusion host for a surgery; to lay on the table next to the patient, connected by tubing from artery to vein?

No. No, I cannot. I cannot force you to do anything that requires medical sacrifice to keep another alive, not even if it’s a blood relative, not even if it’s your own child. Because it’s your body, dammit.

Except, apparently, when it’s a fetus. An embryo. A blastocyst. A potential human which may spontaneously miscarry, which may be unable to survive after birth. It’s not even a person yet, but you want to violate the principle of “your body, dammit.”

No. No, I will not agree. It’s her body, dammit. She gets to decide. If it can survive pre-term and it can be removed without harm to her or it and someone is willing and able both to do the removal and take up responsibility for care then I’m in principle willing to agree to that ruling. But while it can’t and won’t get such care, no. It’s her body, dammit.
