It makes a bit more sense in states like Illinois and Indiana, when you think about it. Border states often had a lot of mingling, and tensions ran high. Hell, we all know that Indiana was a hotbed of racism and white supremacy for years.

Yeah it does make sense in those states. Maryland was a border state too. Pennsylvania though? A state that banned slavery fairly early on and was founded by Quakers though.
