There’s a scene in Out On Blue Six where the former Elector of the Great City of Yu explains that your job as Elector is to maintain the equilibrium of the city. Equilibrium, he explains, is an ancient word, derived from two other ancient words, ‘equi’, meaning equal amounts, and ‘librium’, which is the name of tranquilizer.
