That’s not enough any more - it’s not enough for the modern Conservative to simply vote your beliefs or represent values, you must also actively war against the other side.

The true wingnuts don’t even care if the ‘war’ engaged in is merely theatre either— that is, they will settle for signs and symbols, like flag pin wearing bullshit (rather than the enacting of actual policy initiatives they support.)

They need the noise, the sound and fury. They want the rhetoric turned up to eleven. What else can you expect though? This is the culmination of two decades of the rightwing scream machine employing extreminationist and eliminationist rhetoric about anyone even center left: a liberal ‘virus’, a ‘parasite’, ‘vermin’.
